Donation instead of favors.

Is it acceptable to make a donation to a charity in the bride's and groom's names in place of wedding favors. We were thinking of putting a card on each table reading --

Different wedding favors for children?

We are planning a masquerade reception/wedding. We'd like to incorporate masks in some way. I thought that we could use masks as favors, placing one where each family member sits. As wedding favors, we are using frames to hold the place cards. I have seen this done at events where the frames were provided as a courtesy. We booked a chapel and church hall for our event. We are getting married in Jamaica really soon. Upon our return home, we are having a large reception for our friends and family. I have gotten "wedding" favors for our reception. We went with personalize M&Ms that say the wedding date, etc.
